We built Pleo to solve a problem we knew too well: business spending that felt fragmented, slow, and often more confusing than it needed to be. We wanted to make it easier for teams to manage expenses, stay on top of budgets, and keep moving without constant bottlenecks. That was ten years ago.

Today, over 40,000 companies across Europe use Pleo to spend smarter. Some are early-stage startups aiming to stay lean. Others are well-established global teams with complex operations. What unites them is the need for financial clarity and the ability to move and grow with confidence.

As we mark a decade of Pleo, we wanted to share a more personal perspective: what our own journey has looked like as we’ve scaled, and how we’ve used Pleo along the way. Because while our product has grown, so have we. And many of the challenges we’ve faced—keeping teams aligned, managing growth, making fast, impactful decisions—are ones we know our customers are facing too.

Why this series, and why now

It’s no secret that growth brings complexity. More people, more tools, more decisions. And often, less visibility.

We’ve felt those pressures ourselves. And over time, we’ve learned how to use Pleo not just to manage spend, but to help every part of the business move with more clarity. At Pleo, people are trusted to make the right calls, and they’re given the tools to do it well. Finance has the oversight it needs, without having to approve every transaction. Operations can stay flexible. Leaders can stay focused. And employees have the freedom to spend with confidence because the right systems are already in place.

Pleo started as an easier way to track expenses. For us now, it’s a core part of how we operate. It shapes how we spend, but more importantly, how we move as a business.
